PDF tool
Edit PDF
Edit text, add signatures, and rotate PDF pages locally.
Edit one PDF in your browser by replacing selectable text, adding text or signatures, and rotating pages before downloading a new copy.
How to use Edit PDF
- Choose one PDF from your device.
- Open a page to replace selectable text, add text, or place a signature; rotate pages when needed.
- Download a new edited PDF while keeping the original unchanged.
What this tool does
Local PDF editing
The PDF, signatures, annotations, previews, and exported copy are handled in your browser.
Text and signatures
Mask and replace selectable text, add new text, or draw, type, and upload a signature.
Page rotation
Rotate individual pages while keeping added annotations aligned.
Optional free AI text actions
Only selected text submitted to an AI action goes through Replit AI Integrations to OpenRouter’s free-model router. There is no paid fallback.
Common uses
- Replace selectable text while preserving the surrounding page.
- Add new text or a signature to a PDF.
- Rotate individual pages and export a new copy.
Processing and privacy
Browser processing: The PDF, page previews, signatures, annotations, and exported file are processed locally in the browser.
Third-party AI processing: Only text explicitly submitted to an optional AI action goes through Replit AI Integrations to OpenRouter's free-model router. The PDF and signature are not sent. There is no paid fallback, and free capacity can fail.
Limitations to know
- There is no OCR, so text inside image-only scans cannot be selected or replaced.
- Matched fonts, colors, and masked backgrounds are approximations and can differ on complex pages.
- Password-protected, damaged, or very large PDFs may not load in the browser.
Keep original files where applicable, inspect the result, and do not rely on an automated output without checking that it fits your intended use.
Examples
Replace text with a visible overlay
Input: Use a one-page fixture containing “CONFIDENTIAL-1”. Replace it with “PUBLIC COPY”, save the page edit, and download the edited PDF.
Output: The tool draws an opaque rectangle and replacement text without mutating the source bytes. This masks the old text visually; it is not secure redaction and must not be used to remove sensitive information. If no text can be selected, the page may be a scan.
Rotate an annotated page
Input: Add a text annotation to page 1, save it, rotate that page clockwise, and download.
Output: The page rotation and annotation remain aligned in the exported copy. If placement is wrong on a complex crop box, keep the source and remove or redo the annotation before relying on the export.
Practical tips
- Keep the source PDF and review the exported copy, especially when replacing text over complex backgrounds.
- Image-only scans can be signed or annotated, but existing text in them cannot be selected without OCR.
Frequently asked questions
Does my PDF leave my device?
The PDF and signature editing workflow runs in your browser. If you explicitly use an AI text action, only the selected text is submitted through Replit AI Integrations to OpenRouter’s free-model router; the PDF and signature are not sent.
Can it edit scanned text?
No. The editor does not perform OCR. You can add text or a signature over a scan, but replacing existing text requires a usable text layer.
Why might an AI text action fail?
AI actions use OpenRouter’s free-model router with no paid fallback. Free capacity is not guaranteed, so try again later if no free model is available.
