Utilities tool
IP Address Lookup
Check an IP address, approximate location, and network details.
Automatically detect your public IPv4 or IPv6 address, or enter another address to view approximate FreeIPAPI location, ASN, and exact decimal details.
How to use IP Address Lookup
- Opening this tool asks ipify for the public address currently visible for your connection.
- RizzKit sends that address, or one you enter, to FreeIPAPI through a bounded server request for approximate location and ASN details.
- Review the address, exact decimal value, location, coordinates, and network fields; refresh, retry, or look up another literal address.
What this tool does
IPv4 and IPv6
Automatically checks the current public address or strictly validates a manually entered IPv4 or IPv6 literal.
Location and ASN
Shows available country, region, city, postal code, decimal and DMS coordinates, ASN, and ASN organization without mislabeling it as an ISP.
Exact decimal conversion
Converts all 32 or 128 address bits to an exact base-10 integer without floating-point rounding.
No address history
RizzKit does not persist submitted addresses, put them in URLs, add them to analytics, or build an IP history.
Common uses
- Check which public address an external internet service currently sees for your connection.
- Inspect available country, region, city, coordinates, ASN, and ASN organization for a valid public IPv4 or IPv6 address.
- Convert an IPv4 or IPv6 address to its exact unsigned decimal representation.
- Confirm whether changing a VPN, proxy, Wi-Fi network, or mobile connection changes the observed internet exit address.
Processing and privacy
Third-party processing: When this tool loads, the browser sends an HTTPS request to ipify to detect one public address. RizzKit's server then sends that address, or one entered manually, to FreeIPAPI over HTTPS for approximate geolocation and ASN data. Both are independent external services with their own infrastructure and policies; neither request is AI processing.
Server processing: The submitted address is accepted only in the JSON request body, validated as one literal IPv4 or IPv6 address, and forwarded through a fixed, timeout-bounded FreeIPAPI endpoint. It is not placed in RizzKit request URLs, logs, analytics, or persistent storage.
Browser processing: Results stay in current page memory. Cancelling or starting a newer lookup aborts the active browser request and prevents a stale response from replacing the latest result.
Limitations to know
- The automatically detected result is one observed address for one request: either IPv4 or IPv6, not a complete inventory of every address or interface on the device.
- Geolocation is an approximate database association and can be incomplete, stale, or wrong; it is not GPS and does not establish a person's identity or exact physical location.
- FreeIPAPI does not document a distinct ISP field, so ISP remains Not provided. ASN organization is displayed separately and is not assumed to be the end user's ISP.
- It does not test reachability, open ports, DNS, connection speed, or whether inbound traffic can reach the device.
- The feature depends on ipify, RizzKit's lookup endpoint, and FreeIPAPI; provider limits or network policy can temporarily prevent a lookup.
Keep original files where applicable, inspect the result, and do not rely on an automated output without checking that it fits your intended use.
Examples
Direct internet connection
Input: Open this tool and wait for the automatic lookup
Output: One address returned by ipify, such as an IPv4 address or an IPv6 address. The examples in this documentation are reserved documentation ranges, not expected results.
Compare a VPN route
Input: Read the initial result, connect to a VPN, then choose Refresh
Output: The second result may be the VPN exit address. An unchanged result does not by itself prove that every application uses or bypasses the VPN.
Recover from missing details
Input: If an address appears but FreeIPAPI details fail or say Not provided, keep the observed address and choose Refresh later.
Output: Only available network fields are shown. A failed provider lookup or missing city is not evidence of the device's location; Refresh makes a new ipify request.
Practical tips
- Turn a VPN or proxy on or off, then run a new check to see whether the public address changes. Compare with a speed test if investigating a slow route.
- Treat location as an approximate network-database estimate, never as proof of a person’s identity or exact position.
- ASN organization identifies the registered network organization; it is not necessarily the retail ISP serving an end user.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly does this checker show?
It shows one public internet-facing IP address observed by ipify for the explicit HTTPS request: either an IPv4 address such as 203.0.113.10 or an IPv6 address such as 2001:db8::1. It does not show both address families at once.
Is this my device’s local or LAN address?
No. Private addresses used inside a home, office, hotspot, or other LAN are not reported. The result is the public address presented to ipify by your current internet route.
Why might the address belong to a VPN, proxy, carrier, or shared network?
The observed address is the internet exit point for the request. A VPN, corporate proxy, privacy relay, carrier-grade NAT, or shared router can make many devices use an address associated with that intermediary instead of a unique address assigned directly to your device.
Does an IP address reveal my exact location or identity?
No. FreeIPAPI supplies approximate network-database geolocation for the lookup address, which may be stale or wrong. The shown coordinates are not GPS or a person’s position; this tool cannot identify a person or prove where a device is physically located.
When is my address sent to ipify?
Automatically when this tool loads, and again when you choose Refresh or Retry check. Your browser requests https://api64.ipify.org?format=json directly. As the receiving service, ipify necessarily observes the public source address and returns that one address in JSON; its infrastructure and policies are separate from RizzKit. There is no background polling or automatic retry.
Does RizzKit save or track the returned IP address?
No. RizzKit’s server receives the address in a JSON body only to request FreeIPAPI details. It does not persist the address, place it in local storage or request URLs, or include it in RizzKit logs, analytics, or address telemetry. The displayed result exists only in current page state.
Why can my public IP address change?
Many providers assign addresses dynamically, and reconnecting, moving between Wi-Fi and mobile data, changing VPN locations, or network routing changes can produce a different public address. IPv6 privacy addressing and provider policies can also affect what is observed.
Why does ISP say Not provided?
FreeIPAPI documents an ASN organization but no separate ISP field. This tool keeps ISP empty rather than presenting the ASN organization as something the provider did not claim.
How accurate are IP locations?
They are approximate database matches for a network address. A result can point to an ISP office, network exit, nearby city, or stale record and must not be treated as GPS, an exact address, or proof of identity.
